Salt Lake City Marathon

Hey so this last Saturday I was able to run the Salt Lake Marathon.  It is the sixth one that I have done now.  Let me say though that this marathon was totally spur of the moment with no thought put into it.  For example, I made it to pick up my race packet 10 minutes after they shut down the convention, luckily they still had the box out and let me pick up my chip and number, to my credit, I made it there 10 minutes early but could not find the pace for my life.  I probably ran more then than I did in the marathon.  When I picked up my packet, the lady was like "well go get some rest."  Did I?  No I went dancing instead but i did not stay the whole time so I am still somewhat responsible right?  Well I stayed in Salt Lake and it was like midnight and I had no clue where the start line was or what time the race started, thanks Brent for helping me out!  I then found out that I had forgotten my undershorts and had mismatched cotton socks.  haha yuck!
Anyway about the marathon.  I loved it!  It started at the U of U and went down through sugar house and Murray and back into Salt Lake.  I have never ran one through a city before.  It was pretty and a complete different experience.  I saw lots of little restaurants that looked pretty good, dry cleaning for $2 for each item of clothing, a ski shop, etc. When running you become aware of things that you would usually not notice.  Maybe that is why I like to run?  I cannot think of any other reason really. Also, I have never heard so many cow bells.  Ridiculous but nice.  It is always nice to have people cheer.  And on that note there was an awesome 3 piece playing some Dixieland Jazz so I stopped for a bit and danced and talked to them..it was awesome and then again at mile 20 there was another combo playing some jazz!  So needless to say I stopped to enjoy some more music and danced a bit more. Yeah so there was a strong head wind for the first 13 miles which was not particularly nice but the weather was cool, not too hot until the last mile or so.  And I finished, so that's nice.  I ran it in 4:19 so my slowest one yet but also probably my most relaxed.  I am not as sore either which is nice except my left knee kind of hurts but it'll be fine. I mean I still went climbing today.  :) So family, I have another number to add to the wall.  Yay.
Anyway, with that said, good times.  I'll probably run the Top of Utah, Ogden and St. George this year so I can complete the Grand Slam (All the marathons in Utah) but we'll see if I have the motivation and energy to do that.  I actually want to prepare for an Iron man but that would take a lot of dedication.  I almost signed up for one in Australia this year but didn't..and there is one in South Africa next year that would be amazing so that may be possible...hmmm
Well that is it.
